Easter’s Good Shepherd

Written for my fellow parishioners as we endured the first year of the coronavirus.

We spent a year in darkness,
Just longing for some hope.
A flicker, spark, or glimmer,
A light to help us cope.
Along the way we struggled,
We mourned amongst our flock,
We tried to be like Peter,
Unshaken like a rock.

But looking back at scripture,
We’ve walked this path before,
The Via Dolorosa,
The heavy cross he bore.
The broken hearts that followed,
As night consumed the day,
When even Peter stumbled,
Before he saw The Way.

We’ll always have a shepherd,
With Jesus by our side.
And Easter is his promise
He’s there to be our guide.
The hope amongst the darkness,
The everlasting light,
Who leads his flock to safety,
And saves us from this night.

We’ll soon be reunited,
With all whom we hold dear,
To gather — friends and family,
Without the risk or fear.
So let our faith unite us,
To celebrate and pray,
And dream of new beginnings,
This Blessed Easter Day.
